Principal's Message

Trojan Family,
It is my honor, privilege, and pleasure to serve as the principal of J.P. Taravella High School since 2018. Before I became an educator, I worked in the legal field while attending college (BC/FAU) and raising a family. I earned my degree and began teaching Secondary Mathematics for Broward County Schools in 2000. In 2012, I stepped out of the classroom to become an administrator — a big change and an even bigger challenge. As the leader of our school, I never lose sight of my roots as a classroom teacher and a parent; it is what drives me every day to ensure our students, faculty, and staff are supported, challenged, and encouraged to be their very best.
I am proud to share that the staff and students at JPT are second to none. We have built a true community of love, kindness, and belonging. Our students know they have a place to call home here at Taravella, and that there is always someone ready to support their academic and emotional needs. I am continually inspired by the incredible accomplishments of our students and the countless events that showcase their talents and hard work. Of course, none of this would be possible without our exceptional faculty and staff, who go above and beyond to serve our students and our community. They lead by example and motivate our Trojans to get involved, give back, and grow. At JPT, we are more than colleagues and classmates — we are family. Every member of our staff, from teachers and administrators to custodians, security, paraprofessionals, cafeteria team, counselors, clerical and support staff, plays a vital role in creating an environment where everyone thrives together.
All great schools are built on strong partnerships with families and the communities they serve. We know that when parents and educators work hand in hand, students benefit the most. Through our SAC, PTSO, SAF, and countless other connections, our bonds grow deeper and our Trojan family extends far beyond our campus walls.
This year, I am overjoyed to share that all of this dedication and teamwork has paid off in a big way — J.P. Taravella High School has earned an “A” grade! This accomplishment did not happen overnight. It is the result of years of hard work, high expectations, unwavering commitment, and the spirit of our Trojan family that never gives up. I could not be prouder of our students, staff, and community for proving what is possible when we stand together.
Our diverse student and staff population makes us stronger, and our shared Trojan pride unites us all. No matter who you are, there are only two kinds of people in this world: TROJANS, and those who wish they were TROJANS. Once you walk through our doors, you’ll understand: WE ARE TROJANS!
With respect and love,
Marietta DeArmas
